Deciding to rebrand your website is a big step. Here’s what you should know about some major mistakes to avoid when rebranding or redesigning your website.
The internet is a funny place, what is fashionable today, can be ‘old hat’ tomorrow. Why else would businesses spend precious money on redesigning their online assets.
Must Haves vs Must Nots
There are a few elements that are considered absolute musts on a website today. Being mobile friendly is one of these. If your new website does not display or function correctly on a mobile phone, there is very little use launching it at all!
On the flipside, having too many elements that are not really necessary can slow down your website or make it much more difficult to use or expensive to host.
It is therefore important to do your research before your start. Mimas Web Services will always work with you to ensure that you website only contains the elements you need to stand out to you customers, without bloating your site too much.
Forgetting the Customer
Before you do a big rebrand, don’t forget your existing customers. In a recent rebuild of a website that we completed the customer wanted a complete new interface for their users to use to search for their outlets. Unfortunately, the customers were so used to the original way, that many complained about the new system. Fortunately, we were able to adapt the new interface to include the same functionality of the original, but inkeeping with the new brand.
Launch Without Testing
When that new site is ready, it can be tempting to launch it straight away. Don’t make the mistake of moving forward without testing all elements of it.
At Mimas Web Services we will test each element at a time and proof read all the pages – but we are only one group of people and our focus can be different, to yours or your customer.
Get a few customers to test the new site and offer their feedback, as well as some employees from your compnay. It can also be useful to watch peoiple using your new site to see which areas they find difficult to navigate. We can then spend time going through these bits that they find difficult to use.
Whatever your design, Mimas Web Services will be with you every step of the way through your redesign offering you help and support, from concept designs to launching the final product.
